Spring Skin: How to Care for Your Skin as the Seasons Change

Spring Skin: How to Care for Your Skin as the Seasons Change

There is something about spring that makes everything feel a little fresher. The days start getting longer, the weather warms up and we naturally spend more time outside. But while we might be ready to put away the winter coats, our skin can take a little longer to adjust to the change in season. As temperatures rise and humidity changes, you may notice that your skin starts behaving differently. Perhaps it's feeling a little oilier than usual, you're noticing more congestion, or your skin still feels dry and dull after the colder months. It can be tempting to respond by changing your entire skincare routine, adding new products and looking for something that will quickly “fix” whatever has changed (we’ve all been there)! But your skin doesn't necessarily need a completely new routine every time the seasons change. In fact, we believe spring is a great time to take a step back and focus on the basics: cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, protection & nourishment. Healthy-looking skin is built through consistency, and constantly switching products can make it difficult to know what is actually working for your skin. Your Skin Has Had a Long Winter Winter can be particularly challenging for the skin. Cold temperatures, dry air and indoor heating can leave skin feeling dry, tight and lacking its usual glow. Then spring arrives with warmer temperatures, increased humidity and more time outdoors, and suddenly your skin has a whole new set of conditions to adjust to! This absolutely does not mean you need to start from scratch. Instead, think about supporting your skin as it moves through the transition. A consistent routine can help keep your skin feeling balanced while you adjust to the warmer weather. This is one of the principles behind the Metrin Skincare System. Rather than treating skincare as a collection of individual products that you constantly add, remove and replace, Metrin takes a structured approach with five steps designed to work together. Each bottle is numbered, making it simple to know what to use and when.  Start with a Good Cleanse As the weather warms up, it's normal to notice a little more oil and sweat throughout the day. Add sunscreen, makeup and everyday environmental buildup into the mix and your skin can quickly start to feel congested or uncomfortable. This makes a good cleansing routine particularly important as we head into spring. The Metrin Skincare System begins with a double cleanse. #1 Deep Cleanser is an oil-based cleanser formulated with sunflower seed oil to help remove makeup, sunscreen, excess oil and daily buildup without stripping the skin. #2 Lathering Cleanser then helps remove remaining impurities while supporting the skin's natural exfoliation process, leaving it feeling clean and refreshed.  The goal isn't to leave your skin feeling tight or squeaky clean. It's about removing what you don't need while maintaining the comfortable, balanced feeling your skin does. Don't Overdo It When Your Skin Gets Oily One of the most common things people notice when the weather starts to warm up is an increase in oil production. It's easy to assume that the solution is to use a stronger cleanser or exfoliate more frequently, but this can sometimes leave your skin feeling even more out of balance. Over-cleansing and over-exfoliating can strip the skin of its natural moisture, potentially leaving it feeling both oily and dehydrated at the same time. If you've ever found yourself with a shiny T-zone but dry, tight cheeks, you'll know exactly what we mean. Rather than constantly trying to correct every change in your skin, a balanced routine that focuses on gentle cleansing and appropriate hydration can often be a better approach.  Keep Your Skin Hydrated Just because the weather is warmer doesn't mean your skin stops needing moisture. In fact, spring can be a strange time for hydration because your skin may feel oilier on the surface while still feeling dry or tight underneath. This is where #3 Vita Conditioner comes in. The conditioning step helps replenish moisture and prepare your skin for the rest of your routine, leaving it feeling soft and comfortable. The aim isn't to make your skin feel heavy or overloaded. It's simply about giving it the nourishment and hydration it needs as the conditions around you change. Protect Your Skin as You Spend More Time Outside Spring usually means more time outdoors, whether that's going for a morning walk, enjoying lunch outside, getting back into the garden or simply making the most of the warmer weather. With that comes increased exposure to the elements, so protecting your skin becomes an important part of your daily routine. #4 Protective Lotion helps maintain moisture levels and supports a calm, balanced complexion. It also contains aloe vera, giving the skin a soothing and hydrating step before you finish your routine.  And, of course, this is also the time of year to be particularly mindful of your daily SPF. Metrin doesn't replace sunscreen, but rather prepares and cares for the skin underneath it. Your skincare routine and your sunscreen have different jobs, and both are important parts of looking after your skin during the warmer months.  Don't Forget to Nourish Your Skin It's easy to think that once winter is over, your skin no longer needs the richer, nourishing steps in your routine. But spring skin still benefits from consistent nourishment, particularly when you're dealing with changing temperatures and increased time outdoors. #5 Enriched Vita Conditioner is the final step in the Metrin system and provides longer-lasting hydration and nourishment, helping skin feel soft, smooth and comfortable.  Rather than thinking about spring as a reason to completely change your routine, pay attention to how your skin is actually feeling. Some days it may need more hydration, while other days it may feel perfectly balanced. Your routine can remain consistent while you make small adjustments based on what your skin needs. A Simple Approach to Spring Skincare One of the biggest benefits of having a structured skincare system is that you don't have to constantly think about what comes next. The Metrin Skincare System is built around five steps: cleansing, exfoliating, conditioning, protecting and nourishing. Because each product is designed to work together, there is less guesswork involved and less temptation to keep adding something new.  And while five steps might sound like a lot compared to a basic cleanser-and-moisturiser routine, the simplicity comes from knowing exactly what each step is doing. You aren't trying to work out which serum should go before which treatment or whether you've used too many active ingredients in one routine. You simply follow the system and give your skin the consistency it needs. Spring Doesn't Mean Starting Over As the seasons change, it's completely normal for your skin to change with them. What we don't want to do is assume that every change needs to be corrected with a new product. If your skin is feeling a little oilier, don't immediately reach for the strongest cleanser you can find. If it's feeling dry, you don't necessarily need to add three new moisturisers. And if your skin isn't looking quite as bright as you'd like, give your existing routine some time before deciding that you need something completely different. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your skin is simply stay consistent. Cleanse your skin properly, keep it hydrated, protected and nourished and most importantly, give your routine time to work. That's the philosophy behind Metrin and the reason we believe skincare should be something you can easily maintain rather than something you constantly have to rethink! Spring is a great time for a fresh start. But that doesn't mean you need to start over. Shop the Metrin Skincare System Now

Is Your Skincare Routine Too Complicated? 6 Signs It Might Be Time to Simplify

Is Your Skincare Routine Too Complicated? 6 Signs It Might Be Time to Simplify

If you walk into any beauty store or spend five minutes scrolling social media, you'll quickly find yourself surrounded by endless skincare advice. One creator recommends a 12-step routine. Another swears by layering multiple active ingredients. Before long, your bathroom shelf is overflowing with serums, treatments, masks and moisturisers that promise to transform your skin (we’ve all been there)!  But here's something many people don't realise: more skincare does not always mean better skin. In fact, overcomplicating your routine can sometimes do more harm than good. If your skin feels irritated, unpredictable or simply isn't improving despite using countless products, it may be a sign that your routine needs simplifying. At September Skincare, we believe skincare should feel straightforward, effective and easy to maintain. Healthy-looking skin is built through consistency and balance rather than constantly adding new products. Here are some common signs your skincare routine may be too complicated (and what you can do about it)!  1. Your Skin Feels Constantly Irritated One of the biggest warning signs of an overloaded skincare routine is persistent irritation. If your skin frequently feels red, tight, itchy, flaky or sensitive after applying products, there is a chance your skin barrier is becoming overwhelmed. Many skincare routines combine multiple active ingredients such as acids, retinol, exfoliants and brightening treatments. While these ingredients can absolutely have benefits when used appropriately, layering too many at once may place unnecessary stress on the skin. Your skin barrier plays an important role in maintaining hydration and protecting against environmental stressors. When that barrier becomes compromised, irritation often follows. Rather than continually adding more products, sometimes the best solution is simplifying your routine and allowing your skin to return to balance. 2. Your Products Are Pilling Have you ever applied your skincare only to notice little flakes or balls forming on the surface of your skin? This is known as pilling (and it’s beyond frustrating)!  Pilling often occurs when too many products are layered together, particularly when formulas are incompatible or products have not fully absorbed before the next layer is applied. Not only can pilling be frustrating, but it can also prevent products from performing as intended. A simplified routine with fewer layers often allows products to absorb more effectively while leaving the skin feeling smoother and more comfortable throughout the day. 3. You're Experiencing More Breakouts It might seem logical to add more products when breakouts appear, but this approach can sometimes make the problem worse. Using multiple heavy creams, oils, treatments and active ingredients at the same time can increase the likelihood of clogged pores and skin congestion. Sudden breakouts may occur when the skin becomes overwhelmed by too many products, particularly if new items are being introduced frequently. If your skin seems more reactive than usual, consider whether your routine has become overly complicated. Returning to a consistent cleansing and hydration routine can often help the skin regain balance. 4. Your Skin Feels Oily Despite Using Lots of Products Many people assume oily skin requires stronger cleansers and more treatments. However, over-cleansing and over-exfoliating can sometimes trigger the opposite effect. When the skin feels stripped of its natural moisture, it may respond by producing even more oil to compensate. This cycle can leave the skin feeling simultaneously oily and dehydrated, creating ongoing frustration. A balanced routine that focuses on gentle cleansing and appropriate hydration can help support the skin's natural functions without encouraging excess oil production. 5. You're Not Seeing Any Results Perhaps the most obvious sign that a routine is too complicated is when you're using countless products but your skin isn't improving. Many people spend months layering multiple serums, treatments and creams while constantly switching products in search of faster results. The reality is that healthy-looking skin often takes time. Frequently changing products can make it difficult to determine what is actually working and what isn't. Consistency is one of the most important factors in skincare success. A structured routine followed regularly often delivers better long-term outcomes than a shelf full of products that are constantly rotated. 6. You Dread Doing Your Skincare Skincare should be a form of self-care, not a chore. If your routine feels exhausting, confusing or time-consuming, there's a good chance it has become more complicated than necessary. It you find yourself dreading your skin care routine, this is your sign that it’s not working for you and your lifestyle.  When a routine requires too many steps, people are more likely to skip products, use them inconsistently or abandon the routine altogether. A simpler routine is often easier to maintain, which means you're more likely to stick with it over time. And when it comes to skincare, consistency is far more valuable than complexity. Why Simpler Skincare Often Works Better Healthy-looking, glowing skin does not necessarily require dozens of products. What your skin typically needs is effective cleansing, proper hydration and ongoing support for its natural barrier function. This is why many skincare professionals recommend focusing on a small number of carefully selected products that work together rather than layering numerous unrelated treatments. A structured approach can help remove the guesswork while ensuring each step serves a clear purpose. A Simpler Approach with Metrin® The Metrin® Skincare System for Her simplifies skincare with 5 easy steps designed as a complete skincare solution. And the best part? Every bottle is numbered, so you'll always know exactly what comes next. Instead of relying on dozens of separate products, Metrin follows a structured system where each step has a specific purpose and works together to support healthy-looking, balanced skin. The formulas contain nourishing ingredients like aloe vera, sunflower seed oil and vitamins to help support hydration and keep skin feeling comfortable. The five steps include: #1 Deep Cleanser (Cleanse) A gentle oil-based cleanser that removes makeup, sunscreen, excess oil and daily buildup without stripping the skin. Formulated with sunflower seed oil, it helps cleanse while maintaining the skin's natural moisture balance. #2 Lathering Cleanser (Exfoliate) A refreshing second cleanse that helps remove remaining impurities while supporting the skin's natural exfoliation process, leaving skin feeling clean and refreshed. #3 Vita Conditioner (Hydrate) A lightweight conditioning treatment enriched with vitamins A, D and E to help replenish moisture and prepare the skin for the next steps in the routine. #4 Protective Lotion (Protect) A hydrating lotion featuring soothing aloe vera to help maintain moisture levels and support a calm, balanced complexion throughout the day. #5 Enriched Vita Conditioner (Nourish) A richer conditioning treatment that delivers long-lasting hydration and nourishment, helping skin feel soft, smooth and comfortable. Together, these five steps create a complete routine focused on cleansing, hydration, protection and nourishment. Because the products are designed to work together, there's less confusion about what to use, when to use it and how products should be layered. The Bottom Line If your skin feels irritated, congested, oily, inconsistent or you're simply tired of managing a complicated routine, it may be time to simplify. More products don't always lead to better results. In many cases, healthy-looking skin comes from consistency, balance and supporting your skin's natural functions over time. By focusing on a structured routine and using products designed to work together, you can spend less time guessing and more time enjoying skin that feels comfortable, balanced and cared for. After all, skincare shouldn't feel like a second job. It should be something you enjoy and can realistically stick with every day! Sometimes the most effective skincare routine isn't the most complicated one. It's the one you can follow consistently every day. Shop the Routine Here
