From Canada to September Skincare
September Skincare was founded by Maddy (that’s me)! I spent over 5 years working at Metrin Skincare in Canada as an Ecommerce and Operations Specialist. What started as a working holiday turned into nearly 6 years living there because I loved ithe country and my job so much! During that time, I got a real behind-the-scenes look at Metrin and the community around it.
In my first few years, I was on the front lines talking to customers every single day. Taking calls, replying to emails, processing orders. During this time it became so obvious to me that this wasn’t just another skincare brand. People weren’t just buying products, they were sharing stories. Generations of families using it, friends telling friends, customers who had been using it for 20, 30, even 40+ years! It felt like this skincare secret that everyone who knew about it was in on.
My Skin Journey
I also started using Metrin myself. Prior to my Metrin journey, I had hormonal acne and constant redness from the stress of moving countries and adjusting to a much colder climate. I had tried everything. Truly everything. I was at my breaking point and even considering going on Roaccutane. I remember feeling so embarrassed interviewing for a skincare company while struggling with my acne-prone skin.
After my interview, the beautiful Metrin team gave me the Skincare System to try. Within weeks, my skin started clearing. I used to wake up every morning checking for new breakouts, but slowly, that stopped. For the first time, my skin actually felt clear.
Now, more than 6 years later, it is the only thing I will use on my skin. It completely changed how I saw skincare and what actually works.
Bringing it Home
After more than 5 years at Metrin, I made the decision to move back home to Australia. Leaving was honestly so hard because my team felt like family. So when I got the opportunity to become an authorised distributor of Metrin here in Australia, it was the easiest yes ever!!
September Skincare is my way of bringing something I truly love and believe in to my own community.
Where It All Began
While September Skincare may be new, the Metrin Skincare System has a looooong hisory! The iconic system was developed in the 1920s by American biochemist Dr. George Runnels, who set out to solve his own ongoing skin concerns after years of unsuccessful treatments. Through studying the physiology of the skin, he discovered that long-term skin health isn’t achieved through individual products, but through a complete routine designed to work in sequence.
A System, Not Just Products
In 1932, he introduced the Metrin Skincare System. Built on double cleansing and the layering of hydration, protection and nourishment, the system was designed to support the skin’s natural functions rather than disrupt them. Each step plays a specific role, working together to help keep the skin balanced, clear and functioning optimally.
Proven Over Time
As more people began using the system, results were shared through word of mouth. What stood out wasn’t just short-term improvement, but consistency over time. Many users continued with the system for decades, relying on the same routine as their skin evolved through different stages of life.
Carrying the Legacy Forward
The legacy of Metrin was later carried forward by Macil Sumpter, who experienced the system firsthand and went on to acquire the company. Known for her clear, youthful-looking skin well into her later years, she became a powerful example of the system’s long-term effectiveness.
Macil saw Metrin as an opportunity to help people and did exactly that. Her warmth and charisma resonated widely, leading to appearances on numerous TV programs throughout the 1980s and 90s, where she shared the system with a growing audience.
Even into her nineties, Macil remained the face of Metrin. People were often surprised to learn her true age, underestimating her by decades. Her skin was proof of the system’s lasting results—and today, generations of loyal users continue that legacy.
Metrin Today
Today, the Metrin Skincare System is still proudly made in Canada, using the same proven formula and principles established by Dr. George Runnels over 90 years ago. Unchanged and trusted across generations, it remains a system designed to support the skin long-term—delivering consistent, lasting results.
For us, it’s about lifelong relationships. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing our customers feel confident in their skin and be mistaken for younger year after year. It’s a privilege to care for our community not just today, but for decades to come.
